The Curse of Breaks
When hiking 17 to 20 miles a day with sweaty feet, it's a good idea to stop every once and a while to air them out. This helps prevent blisters and is generally comforting. The rest from bearing 190 lbs of weight goes a long way, and the occasional foot massage does a good job of keeping them ready to go.
However, this is sometimes not enough. I found myself today hoping for limited breaks, which may seem counterintuitive given the nature of breaks. I only wanted to stop to make sure my feet weren't going to peel off, but that's about it. By far the worst part about breaks is the fact that they must end, and you must inevitably take another step on those oh-so-tender soles.
