Captain's Log: Day 74 - Mile 1234.4
June 25, 2016
Despite my wrist watch auto-snoozing the alarm (something that happens with unfortunate frequency) we had what was probably our fastest breakdown of camp yet. It was 4 miles to the other road leading into Buck Lake and the plan was to head into town for their praised breakfast burrito if it looked like an easy hitch. The road was totally empty though and didn't look like it saw much traffic especially at 7:00am on a Saturday.
We got to the middle fork of the Feather River just before noon and stopped for a long lunch break there. We had already come 18 miles and there was no rush to be anywhere. We had to wait until Monday to pick up our resupply packages anyway.
nap time
We had quite a big climb up from the creek followed by rolling ups and downs for the rest of the day. We ran into Kibbles-and-bits, the guy who us found my hat back in the desert, and Thor, another hiker we knew from Southern California. At the spring we planned on camping at we met Vulture and Melon Head. They were both from Florida and in either their first or second years of school, banging out the whole trail over the 3 months of summer. We talked with them until they headed on to squeeze out another few miles. We called it a day.
