Captain's Log: Day 24 - Mile 517.6

May 6, 2016

The fog from the night before had mostly lifted when we got up. It was another morning of spread out hiking for the most part; bunching up and talking for a bit and then spreading back out into silence or listening to music or podcasts.

We all met up at the final spring before the dry stretch leading up to Hiker Town. It was a steep walk down to the spring but good tasting water. We were all pretty wet at this point from walking through dew-covered grass encroaching on the trail and figured now would be a good time to let feet and clothing dry a little bit. No sooner had we taken socks and shoes off did it start coming down.

Each of us packed up as quickly as we were able and once again set off at different intervals. We bunched back up a few miles before the highway and Hiker Town and headed in to check it out.

What we found was a fenced in large yard with various trailers and shacks around the perimeter. Each had a sign above it like "Sheriff" or "City Hall." We set up on chairs near city hall to dry things out and figure out the next move.

Bob, the caretaker, offered us the old hiker lounge in the garage to sleep in and we decided to stay despite the strange vibes of the whole place. The rest of the day consisted of charging, blogging, and eating before heading to bed.
